Over the last few years, quite a few studies have come out that discuss the benefits of working few hours and the drawbacks of working a lot of hours. Governments and companies have been taking note. Several companies in Sweden have made trials of reducing the work week to 30 hours – while keeping pay the same. Shinzo Abe has recently pledged to reduce working hours in Japan, where many salaried workers are expected to work very long hours without little or no compensation for extra time. Several American companies are experimenting with giving workers three day weekends or reducing work hours.
The studies are fairly conclusive. Working fewer hours (i.e., 25-30 hours per week) results in greater physical and mental health. The more hours a person puts in a week, the greater the strain on both body and mind, and the more likely he or she is to have to take time off. Fewer work hours by the individual means more people can be employed, thus taking them off welfare. However, unless companies cut salaries as well as cutting hours, the idea is not cost-effective. Few workers are willing to see their salaries cut, especially with the cost of living rising.
We are likely to see many more studies aimed at discovering the best work/life balance over the next few years. As I have mentioned in previous blogs, in historical numerology, the world runs on cycles of nine years. We are currently in world cycle 225. If we then take those cycles and turn them into groups of nine cycles, we have grand world cycles. Currently, we are in grand world cycle 25, a 7 cycle. This cycle started in 1945. The 7 indicates that we are striving to analyze and understand things. It also indicates a focus on math, science, technology, and metaphysics. The 2 suggests that much of the analysis focuses on interpersonal relationships and communication. The 5 indicates adaptability, curiosity, change, and travel. Thus, one focus for our collective analysis is finding the best methods for interacting with each other. (You might notice that the development of a worldwide communications system is indicated as well.)
Our next grand world cycle starts in 2026, and it is cycle 26 – an 8 cycle. The 8 indicates business, money, and status. The 2 still indicates a focus on interpersonal relationships and communication. The 6 indicates responsibility and duty – not just to work, but to those close to us, especially family. Thus, the work/life balance will become increasingly important. You might say that these studies are intended to find the best way to start the next cycle.
In my ‘World 2017’ blog, I discussed some of what the coming year will look like. However, I do not just predict the future – I also look at the past. I chose 2008 through 2016 because that is the most recent world cycle. This look at the numerology behind that cycle may help you understand why certain events occurred at that time.
We were in cycle 224 – an 8 cycle. 8 cycles focus on fame, fortune, and business. The 2s in 224 indicate a need for cooperation. The 4 indicates limits and a need to be practical.
The first effect of the 8 cycle fell on fortune. Due to the burst of a housing bubble and several other factors (see the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Recession), much of the world entered a recession. It is interesting to note that the majority of the countries that had an economic recession were first-world countries – the countries that tend to create world policy. Most of the second- and third-world countries actually experienced an economic boom. Even more interesting is the fact that China, in 2008, was considered by most people to be second-world at best. However, that is the country that had the biggest economic boom at the time, and now most people consider China to be a first-world country.
The recession was officially over by the end of 2009, which makes sense, since 2010 was a 3 universal year, and those are known for a sense of joy. As many of you know, that relief was not felt by individuals, or even many major corporations, though it was felt by most countries. In fact, a weak recovery from the recession (which was indicated by the 4 in 224 – 4s typically build slowly) was felt next by corporations, who had to restructure spending plans, rebalance budgets, and cut back on spending. That trickled on down to individuals, as people lost jobs or had hours cut back and had trouble finding sources of income to replace the lost revenue. Depending on where you live, you could have continued to see the effects into the present, though for most, the worst was over by the end of 2014.
This makes sense numerologically because 2015 was an 8 universal year – a year for fame, fortune, and business. Given the negativity of the 8 cycle to this point, doubling it turned it positive. Thus most individuals and surviving corporations saw an increase in income that year.
Fame did not play a major role until 2016 – the final year of the cycle. It was a 9 year – a year for endings. The 1 indicates leadership and the 6 indicates responsibility and humanitarianism. Thus, we saw an inordinate number of famous role models die that year. As many of my friends have good reason to know, role models who were not so famous were also prone to dying, particularly in the beginning of the year. There has been some spillover into 2017, though we should see the deaths taper off to a normal level in March or April.
Now you know why major events happened when they did from 2008 through 2016. If you wish to compare that cycle to the three previous 8 cycles, those occurred during the years 1927-1935, 1846-1854, and 1765-1773.
Those of you who read the ‘Your Personal Year for 2017’ blog and have children are probably wondering if the outlook is different for children. The answer is yes – slightly. Children are still growing, learning, and have more limited understanding than most adults. As a result, the numerology readings have to be altered slightly, and worded for parents. This can also apply to those adults who are sufficiently cognitively or emotionally impaired to be more like a child than an adult.

You have probably heard of the daily horoscope for astrology. You probably even know your sun sign, even if you don’t believe that the alignment of the planets can affect you. Numerologists have a similar concept: the personal year, month, and day. This is derived from your birth date. Unlike astrology, in numerology, your personal year does not stay the same from year to year – one of us has to do some math. Fortunately, that’s my job, so I’ve done the math for you. Find your birthday to see what this year holds for you.

o What you do this year is likely to determine what you will be doing for the next nine years, so think before you act. This is not a time to be indecisive: you need to have courage and take the bull by the horns, so to speak. Make plans and set both short and long term goals. Expect change and expect to change. If you haven’t done so already, you need to let go of anything holding you back. This does not mean that you should sever relationships, but do not let another’s expectations of you prevent you from doing something you really want to do. You will have new opportunities. Seize the day.

o You will need patience, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to cooperate with others this year. You are likely to receive some of the help you need to reach some of your goals, but you cannot force the issue. You can let it be known what kind of help you need, but then you need to have patience and wait for others to offer their assistance. Delays will occur. Avoid pushing the issue. You need to have faith that your plans will come to fruition when the time is right.

o This is a great year to focus on improving yourself. You are likely to be more creative, use more imagination, and receive more inspiration this year than is normal for you. Whenever you have an idea that you want to follow through on, you should note it so that you remember to follow through. Both your finances and your relationships are likely to be in good shape this year, as long as you treat others with friendship and respect. Use common sense, or you will wonder what happened. This is a great year for taking your dream vacation. Do make the effort to follow your dreams, and you will get the most out of the year. Do not, however, expect immediate results. The results of this year’s efforts will come late this year and throughout next year.

o This year is full of practicality and hard work. Now is the time to push yourself forward and really work to accomplish your goals. You will need to stay organized and keep applying yourself to your tasks, or you will get sidetracked and lose out on some of what the year has to offer. Expect big expenses this year. You are also more prone to illness and injury, so do your best to not lose sight of what you are doing and where you are going. Take breaks as needed to maintain your health. This is also a good year for buying, selling, and trading, and for building or adding to the foundation of your life. A move to a new residence is possible if your current residence does not meet your needs. Use economy, thrift, care, and efficiency when meeting your goals in order to come out ahead at the end of the year.
· January 3, 12, 21, 30; February 2, 11, 20, 29; March 1, 10, 19, 28; April 9, 18, 27; May 8, 17, 26; June 7, 16, 25; July 6, 15, 24; August 5, 14, 23; September 4, 13, 22; October 3, 12, 21, 30; November 2, 11, 20, 29; December 1, 10, 19, 28:
o This will be a year of change, and therefore, uncertainty, which is likely to make you feel unsettled. Do not expect to settle into a routine, for the moment you do, something is likely to happen to make you break that routine. Keep an open mind, for this year you will find yourself having to change plans to reach your long-term goals, and perhaps even changing the goals themselves. Plan ahead, but expect to make adjustments. You are also likely to feel more restless and impatient than usual, but do not allow those feeling to force you into being hasty, or you will waste resources. You will probably have to break up or change old relationships and routines. Think things through, and make certain the changes you make benefit others involved as well as yourself. You do not want to leave others feeling poorly towards you. This is a time for travel and freedom, and thus is a year in which you may do what you want, within reason. Keep things fresh this year.
· January 4, 13, 22, 31; February 3, 12, 21; March 2, 11, 20, 29; April 1, 10, 19, 28; May 9, 18, 27; June 8, 17, 26; July 7, 16, 25; August 6, 15, 24; September 5, 14, 23; October 4, 13, 22, 31; November 3, 12, 21, 30; December 2, 11, 20, 29:
o This year indicates responsibility and duty towards those you love. Be honest, charitable, and unselfish, and do not allow negative feelings to persist. Express love and sympathy. You will feel a need to get things settled. Your friends and family will have plenty of good advice for you, so talk things over and listen to them. Consider others’ feelings and needs as well as your own when making decisions, and allow yourself to make adjustments for them. You will have a big responsibility thrust upon you this year, whether it is the care of a family member or friend, a big project at work, or some form of health issue. For best results, you should feel privileged to have such a big responsibility, rather than feeling that it is a burden. Give more than you expect to receive. Others may try to impose on you or take advantage of your generosity. Use good judgment in those cases. It is okay to say no if they do not truly need your help. This is a good year for love and romance, and for settling down.
· January 5, 14, 23; February 4, 13, 22; March 3, 12, 21, 30; April 2, 11, 20, 29; May 1, 10, 19, 28; June 9, 18, 27; July 8, 17, 26; August 7, 16, 25; September 6, 15, 24; October 5, 14, 23; November 4, 13, 22; December 3, 12, 21, 30:
o This will be an intellectual year for you. You will want to dig deeper and know more. You will also be more involved in quiet pursuits than usual, unless that is the usual for you. You will want to spend more time alone and to rest more, and it will be necessary for your physical, emotional, and mental health. This is a time for analysis and thinking things through. Many of your decisions will be about yourself and where you want to be in life – things you can start working on in the next few years. Others will find it more difficult to understand you this year, and you will find it harder to understand them. Be fair, understanding, and reasonable, and don’t interfere in their lives. You are likely to feel out of the loop, and that is okay. Do not force things or work too hard. This is your year to be quietly alone.
· January 6, 15, 24; February 5, 14, 23; March 4, 13, 22, 31; April 3, 12, 21, 30; May 2, 11, 20, 29; June 1, 10, 19, 28; July 9, 18, 27; August 8, 17, 26; September 7, 16, 25; October 6, 15, 24; November 5, 14, 23; December 4, 13, 22, 31:
o This year, you have ambitions and you want more money. You need to be businesslike, efficient, and practical. You will have to be a bit judgmental this year, so take the time to make certain that your judgments are good ones. Now is the time to tie up loose ends, and when you are out of loose ends to tie, set goals and work towards them. You will probably need the help of others to keep track of all of this year’s details. Err on the side of underestimating things. You will have to do plenty of work, but don’t push yourself, or you are liable to become ill. Be cooperative and helpful, but not dominant. A businesslike or professional attitude is best. As this is a time for money matters, a change in residence is possible. You will be focusing on the material things of life, either bringing them into your life or working yourself free of them.
· January 7, 16, 25; February 6, 15, 24; March 5, 14, 23; April 4, 13, 22; May 3, 12, 21, 30; June 2, 11, 20, 29; July 1, 10, 19, 28; August 9, 18, 27; September 8, 17, 26; October 7, 16, 25; November 6, 15, 24; December 5, 14, 23:
o This year, more than any other, requires tolerance, compassion, and forgiveness on your part. You will complete a number of your long-term goals this year, and while there will be joy in the successful completion, there is also likely to be sadness. People who no longer have a reason to be in your life will pass out of it, one way or another. New opportunities and interests will open up to take the place of the ones that have finished, though you will not be able to start many of them until next year. Do not try to hold on to anything that wants to get away, for this is a time of letting go. This is also a time for giving of yourself. Spending time doing humanitarian work is a good idea. You are likely to find yourself embroiled in others’ situations, particularly love affairs. Think the situation through and give your best advice.
